Naya Rivera Wants You to Stop Taking a Bath Everyday

Recently Naya Rivera stunned early-morning talk show viewers when she admitted that she doesn't shower every day on The View. "I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnic," Rivera said. "I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing." Naya sourced her own Caucasian husband, Ryan Dorsey, who apparently showers multiple times a day, as an example. Meanwhile, she likes to stick to a more lax bathing schedule. "So the study says, a dermatologist says you are only supposed to shower once or twice every three days, so I'm right on the mark, " Naya explained.

As a Black woman, I have to say that I shower every day (except on the odd weekend when I'm binge washing Orange Is the New Black for 48 hours solid). So I don't think daily hygiene habits differ among specific cultures. However, Naya has a point. Did our great grandparents submerge themselves in hot water every day? No. Then again they probably weren't participating in spin classes every morning either and constantly trying to dodge the latest ebola epidemic. Yet research shows that skipping showers isn't necessarily bad hygiene, and it's surely better for the environment.

We've grown accustomed to daily washing as a social norm - no one wants to be the smelly friend. Of course, one should always wash your hands after using the restroom, before eating, and frequently during flu season. Yet, maybe we can all join Naya in having a good ole sponge bath every once in a while. At the very least, you'll be able to pull off the second-day hair look Naya is so fond of . . .
