Why It's a Problem That Madonna and Chloë Grace Moretz Look Alike
Madonna is undeniable gorgeous. She is one of the most badass, talented musicians of our time (just watch her get down on stage). And while age is just a number, sometimes I wish she looked hers.
At the 2015 Met Gala, Madonna walked the red carpet with glowing, youthful skin. Her forehead was creaseless, under-eyes free of bags, cheeks plump, and smile lines nonexistent. Even the skin on her body was taut and devoid of age spots or wrinkles. In my opinion, she looked a lot like Chloë Grace Moretz - who also showed off a dewy, even complexion. Heck, they could pass for sister sisters! The problem: Madonna is 56 and Chloe is 18.
Seeing this as a 30-year-old woman - who is beginning to deal with aspects of anti aging - is horrifying. Madonna is one of the coolest people in Hollywood and a beauty icon, and by wearing this mask, she sets the unattainable standard woman can age without ever looking any older. The thing is Madonna is over the hill, and without the aid of extreme cosmetic dermatology surgeries and lasers, she wouldn't look like this.
I personally find it to be confusing and intimidating. On one hand, we are told to love ourselves - embrace our flaws, go makeup-free, be "natural" beauties. On the flip side, the women we look up to in Tinseltown look anything but that.
After seeing Spring's hit movie, The Age of Adaline, in which Blake Lively's character is frozen at 29, I watched why having a direct drinking line to the fountain of youth can be a curse. There's a right of passage to being part of a generation of women who actually looking like someone's mother - or grandmother!
My takeaway from Madge's red-carpet appearance is that yes, she looks fabulous and flawless. But it's time for her to embrace her age - and I promise to love her even more.
