The Glam and Not-So-Glam Moments of Getting Red Carpet Ready
I'll be the first to admit I have a very glamorous job, but it's also exhausting. Talking on red carpets for upward of eight hours is exhausting. (Talking to anyone for eight hours is hard work.) Wearing fake eyelashes eight weekends in a row is exhausting. (If you've ever worn them, you know this is true.) And the effort that we put into getting glam during award season - especially for the Academy Awards - is exhausting.
You're probably rolling your eyes. Yes, there are worse things I could be doing, but this is my life's work, and it can take a lot out of a person sometimes!
I didn't attend the show or cover the red carpet, but I did cover Elton John's Oscars viewing party - the place most celebrities head to watch the show if they can't actually make it to Dolby Theatre - and that meant I had to at least look like I belonged on the carpet next to Sir Elton, Gigi Hadid, Miley Cyrus, et al.
Plenty of bloggers, editors, and my colleagues in the hosting world put themselves through the gamut to look good for any Oscars-related function they might attend, myself included. We might not be wearing Tom Ford and cruising around in a giant Escalade with a personal umbrella holder, sipping on Moët & Chandon, and eating the finest steak tartare and salmon crostinis in town, but heck, we want to look like we are.
So here's how my quest to become an Oscars glamazon - and then some - went down.
